Lei Davis

I use photography to express and project my inner world and imagination. Largely self-taught, my approach is intuitive, spontaneous, and experimental. My works are essentially stories – fictional yet personal. They reflect my inner states of being but also mirror universal themes of being human and our existentiality. My works come with layers of abstraction that allow viewers to imagine their own stories and make their own associations.

Using my photos as a starting point, I experiment with different techniques and media that could best tell my stories. I have used photo transfer technique, animation, and videos in the presentation of my series. Particularly, making book objects is an essential part of my artistic practice whereby each of my series is made into artist’s books/objects.
